Shock and Awe — Immigration and SCOTUS

Nothing powered the Trump Train like the issue of immigration. Nothing solidified Conservative support for Trump like the future picks for the U.S. Supreme Court. Trump understands the old adage to strike while the iron is hot. What may it look like? Here are some excerpts from my longer article:

  • Wall/immigration: First up will be the Wall. This is what ignited the Trump Train and powered it through the election. There is no singular issue that defines what the movement that elected Trump is more than building the wall and immigration enforcement. There is no doubt the wall will be built. Trump is a builder and this will be his legacy for the country. It will be forever known as the Trump Wall. There is also a strong case that he can build that big, beautiful wall, as he describes it, without additional legislative action since it was already passed in 2006. As for the rest of immigration reform, Trump can meet 80–90% of this promise just by enforcing the laws on the books! Expect action on this on Inauguration Day.
  • Supreme Court: The second biggest flag that Trump planted was appointing conservative Supreme Court judges. He even provided a list and promised to appoint the replacement for the late Antonin Scalia from that list. Despite many people’s best effort to have him choose someone not on the list (and thereby make him break a promise), Trump will pick one of the 20 names he listed. He will follow through and pick conservative judges for the lower courts as well. Expect an announcement of a name for the vacant seat on Inauguration Day.
